Breast lifting with PDO threads
PDO thread lifts are the latest and revolutionary treatment for skin tightening and lifting, as well as V-shaping the face.
However, we can now use threads, to produce impressive breast lifts with our Body treatment. Although not suitable for all, this treatment can offer a wonderful alternative to going under the knife.
How does the treatment work?
The threads are made of the same absorbable material used for surgical stitches – polydioxanone or PDO. PDO continuously stimulates collagen synthesis under skin, which means the results improve over time. When inserted, they act as a ‘scaffold’ for the skin that helps to hold it against the effects of gravity. The threads are reabsorbed in 4 to 6 months, leaving only the new skin structure, which holds for another 18 to 24 months.
Treatment benefits include:
- No need for expensive, painful surgery with lots of downtime
- A quick and easy procedure, ensuring minimal downtime and discomfort
- Instant and long lasting results for up to 2 years
- Stimulated collagen production, improving tissue elasticity
- Stimulation of new blood vessels, improving oxygen supply to skin
- Fibroblast stimulation, improving skin texture and tone
- Reduced pore size due to new tissue formulation.
Frequently asked questions
Am I suitable for this treatment?
To achieve best results, we are only able to perform breast lifting with PDO threads for patients who have Grade 1 or 2 ptosis.
This means that, for those whose nipples are below the infra-mammary fold (the crease of the breast) the outcomes will not be as good as those whose nipples lie above the fold.
Please see the diagram on the right.
We can only achieve good results for patients where the nipples are lying between ‘Normal’ and point ‘A’ or ‘B’.
Unfortunately, for nipples lying between B and C, as shown on the diagram, surgical lifting will be needed.
What happens at my initial consultation?
If this procedure is suitable for you, we always perform a medical consultation before the treatment. During the consultation, the doctor will discuss in detail the principle and effects of the treatment. The breasts are examined for any asymmetry or irregularities and measurements are taken.
It is important that we can manage your expectations of the treatment to make sure that we are able to meet them. The procedure takes approximately one hour, depending on the number of threads used. On average, between about 40 and 50 threads are needed for the breasts.
When does the effect appear and how long does it last?
The first effects are visible instantly, but considerable improvement appears after 2 or 3 months, when induction of new collagen begins.
The effect is long lasting – up to 2 years.
What are the results?
Usually you will only need one procedure to achieve your desired lifting effect. The treatment takes approximately one hour and you will see results immediately after. The effect lasts from between 18 months and 2 years.
Is this a painful treatment?
You may feel slight stinging, similar to an acupuncture treatment. However as it feels more tender around the nipple area, we use a local anaesthetic for thread insertion.
For a few days after the procedure, your breasts will be sore and feel heavy. Therefore we advise taking regular paracetamol and wearing a support bra for the week following your treatment.
What are the side effects and downtime?
With the innovative technology adopted by the PDO thread lift, side effects and downtime are only limited to insertion technique of the practitioner. The procedure is performed by Dr Huo, who is highly experienced doctors. You will receive a thorough breast exam prior to any treatment and a detailed past medical history will be taken to make sure this treatment is right for you.
The treatment is slightly uncomfortable but you could walk out the clinic and go back work if you need to. There will be swelling and bruising for a few days after the procedure.
Post-treatment recommendations
There are no contraindications against returning to your daily activity. Reddening at the thread introduction points disappear between 3 and 5 hours after the treatment. We advise taping your breasts for 48 hours post procedure for best results.
Adverse effects
There is always a risk of bruising but this will settle after the first week. However, your breasts will feel slightly sore. The procedure is always carried out in a sterile environment. There may be a risk of skin puckering, but this soon settles.
